How to Prevent Spots
Spots keep coming back?
Finding it difficult to achieve clear skin?
Do you want a way of managing acne long term?
Want to know how to prevent spots before they form?
The first thing to realise if you want to know how to prevent spots is that the actual spot is only a symptom of the problem. In other words the acne is forming under your skin days before you see the first sign of a spot. This means that if all you are doing is treating the spots as they appear you are just reacting to the condition with crisis treatments rather than getting to the heart of the problem and reducing the formation of spots.
You will only get truly clearer skin if you learn how to prevent spots in the first place
A few years ago I had a problem with nettles in my garden. I kept strimming the weeds and cutting them down but the next week they would be back just as tall. It was only when my elderly, experienced gardener, neighbour told me I was wasting my time that I learned to dig up the roots.
OK I’m not a great gardener!
The thing is I put in some effort that weekend. I dug and I pulled up weeds. The result was no more nettles and even the ones that do occasionally appear are much easier to deal with.
The reason I tell this story is that the same applies to your skin. Once you know how to prevent spots
and develop a good treatment plan you should be able to reduce the severity of acne and deal with individual spots much more effectively.
Acne has to be treated at its roots. We are not just going to treat spots we are going to look at how to prevent spots.
How to Prevent Spots Forming
A spot forms when a pore or hair follicle becomes blocked. This does not happen because of surface dirt, it happens because the body is not dealing well with its own functions. This usually occurs when hormonal imbalance causes the body to produce too many oils from the sebaceous glands.
The sebaceous glands are found all over the body just below the surface of the skin. Their job is to produce oil, or sebum, which keeps your skin moisturised and helps to maintain healthy youthful skin appearance. Unfortunately at various times in your life the system will become out of balance. Teenage years are the most common but it could also be during pregnancy, at times of stress and as you age. It is at these times that knowing how to prevent spots becomes so important
Unfortunately you cannot control your hormones but you can manage the consequence of this imbalance and support the body in restoring harmony.
You need to develop an effective skin care routine that will prevent spots
- On a weekly basis deep clean areas that are affected by acne. Deep cleaning too frequently could stimulate the sebaceous glands to produce more sebum so limit this to once each week. You can use a home made face pack or a commercial pack designed to support acne treatment. It will help if you steam your face before applying your deep cleansing pack and close pores after the treatment using a good toner designed for skin prone to acne, drawing sebum from under the surface will help prevent spots forming.
- Each day cleanse your skin with a gentle cleanser. Your product should contain an ingredient that will kill bacteria, I tend to look for natural ingredients such as tea tree oil which has anti-bacterial properties known to prevent spots. Always cleanse in the evening if you wear make-up and try to cleanse soon after physical activity that has caused sweating
- Never squeeze spots, you could cause permanent scars. If a large spot forms use an emergency symptom treatment to reduce the appearance of large spots. Clear Skin Max contains an emergency treatment or you could try the toothpaste treatment, but read my post does toothpaste get rid of spots first.
- Food does not cause acne but ensuring your body functions efficiently will help it cope with spots, my post acne and diet looks at this further. Basically drink plenty of water, eat fruit and vegetables that are high in anti-oxidants and you might want to try green tea or tava tea special acne blend that is included in the clear skin max complete acne system. Good diet can certainly help when you are looking at how to prevent spots.
Heading towards clearer skin becomes easier when you know how to prevent spots is more about deep cleansing and ensuring your face is treated regularly to prevent the build up of dead skin cells and excess sebum.
Occasional spots will unfortunately always plague us, they are a reflection of our bodies inner health, but follow these guidelines about how to prevent spots and you will be well on your way to reducing the frequency and severity of spots.
